More Julip "S"

Julip made a SHOW HUNTER in the 1950s and 60s. This was a tall, upstanding horse that was one of the largest Julip made.

This mould was discontinued during the 1970s. The model above is showing the really old style dapples!

Next up, we have the SHOW COB. This is a much more recent mould, being introduced during the 2000's. At first glance, it is very similar to the Cob Stallion, but if viewed side by side, the two moulds are different enough to tell them apart easily.

This mould is still available to order.

Another fairly recent addition to the Julip range is the SPORT HORSE. Again, you can still order this mould.
It is based on the Horse Of The Year plastic "Moondance".

This particular model was found on ebay a few years ago.

The last model in "S" is the STANDING HORSE. Sadly, I don't have an example of this. They are really old, from the early 1950s, and I have yet to see one in the flesh.

The Shetland Pony

Julip seems to have had a SHETLAND in their range for ever.  Since the 1950s it has had pretty much the same basic shape and size, with a few mould tweaks here and there.  The earliest example I have is from the early 1960s and is actually not mine, but he lives here on permanent loan from an old friend.

This next one is from 1974 and he came to me via a collector back in the 1980s.

This looks a little more compact than the earlier version and the head is not so tucked in.  The next one doesn't have a date letter, so I'm guessing he must be from the 1990s.

This mould isn't used any longer, but a Shetland does live on in the price list in the form of Taffy the Pit Pony (see T!).

More Ponies

Julip's PONY MARE has had two versions over the years. The first version is from the 1950s and 60s.

The pony above is a 1960s model and as you can see, is a little threadbare!  I don't re-hair my older models as some collectors do. I like to keep my Julips as original as possible, even though some look a little sad.
The second version of the pony Mare was introduced in the 1970s and is still around today - confusingly now known as a Welsh pony. More on that when we get to W!

Ponies!

On into 'P' ! We start with the Julip POLO PONY, which was in the catalogues until sometime in the 1970s. This is one of the more rare moulds as it's not often seen on ebay. Collectors tend to hang on to them!

Next is the PONY HUNTER. This is another of the rarer ones and I was lucky to acquire this one from someone else's collection in the 1990s before Julip prices rocketed.

This one was made in 1973.  The mould was discontinued in the mid 1970s.

New Forest Pony

The NEW FOREST PONY is one of the nine native breeds of Britain.  Julip have had two versions of this model. The first, from the 1950s and 60s, wasn't the prettiest looking pony by any means!

I bought this model from a fellow collector back in the 1990s.
The second version was produced in the 1970s and is a much better looking specimen.  This mould is still being used today.

The model above is from 1978. The one below is much more recent.

Julip M's

We start off the M's with the MOORLAND. This was a small pony which was around in the 1960s and discontinued some time in the 1970s.

Unfortunately, the model above can't be dated as its mouth has seized shut!

Next is the MULE. This is a very recent addition, only being made in the last couple of years. In fact, it's mainly a Welsh Cob mould with modified ears, but counts as a mould in its own right.

And lastly for M is the MUSTANG. This model is based on the Horse Of The Year's range plastic Family Pony and first came out as a latex model in the 1990s.

Above is one of the earlier ones. Later Mustangs have their mouths filled so they are closed.

Jumping Horse

The Julip JUMPING HORSE is the largest model they have made to date. It was made in a jumping pose so it was rather limited in its uses!  However, it was in the catalogue for many years, being discontinued in 1984.

The model above was made in 1975 and is wearing Julip's leather tack.

The LIPIZZANER horse has had two different moulds. The first version was introduced in 1975 together with a rider dressed as a member of the Spanish Riding School of Vienna.

This mould carried on until sometime in the 1990s.  The second version was introduced around 2006 and is still available.
